I am sure you all know that we call our little nest here where we live “Twin Oaks”.
You can read a sweet story about the name of our home here.
The two oak trees that prompted the name of our home were on the original farm stead that was on our land before this new home was built here.
They are old, old trees.
Maybe not as beautiful as other trees, but they are beautiful to us!
We had a storm blow up out of no where the evening of June 2nd.
Blake and Addie Mae were running around outside trying to save things like our basketball pole, our swimming pool cover, and our patio chairs, while the rest of us watched from the windows inside!
I saw Blake pointing and telling us to go look at something….and when we did, this is what we saw.
I said, “No, no!” and sweet Eliza started crying!
We were and still are sad that one of our Twin Oaks had been split in two because of the severe straight line winds of that storm.
Since that evening we have asked around and done some research of our own.
We are not sure if the half that is standing will recover and survive, but we sure hope that it will!
We are hoping to use the half that is on the ground to make something for our home.
The ideas have been flowing around – a beam for the ceiling peak in our great room? A table? A bench?
Time will tell!
Yes, we are keeping our name.
Twin Oaks is the sweetest nest for us, and Twin Oaks it will always be.
Have you started new oaks somewhere for the day when these two are gone? They live so long, but take a long time to grow. Plant two close together and “twine” them so they’re really twins!
That’s a good idea and something to consider!
