The Winter Months Continue On

You guys, it’s February 17th!

This winter is flying by here at Twin Oaks – and that is not something I can normally say about winter!

Our rhythm these days seems a tad bit slower, but I think that is just because we have not been running to endless appointments.

Instead we have been very busy here at home doing school and keeping Twin Oaks running.

IMG_20200129_091341IMG_20200129_112429IMG_20200129_162138IMG_20200131_135207IMG_20200131_201404IMG_20200208_201642IMG_20200209_110729IMG_20200209_124225The children had a great time while Blake and I were away on our anniversary trip!

They love a dynamics change as much as I do – and Addie made sure they had fun things to do.

They even met up with Kay and her crew one day!

IMG_4998IMG_5046IMG_5063IMG_5067The morning after Blake and I got home from our get away, Addie and I ran a workshop at a Mother/Daughter retreat.

We both enjoyed the opportunity very much!

The Bible camp we were at was the most beautiful winter wonderland!

IMG_5079IMG_5083After Addie Mae and I got home that afternoon, we enjoyed some coffee and a treat while we talked about our morning!

The sunshine that day was wonderful.

IMG_20200208_140439IMG_20200201_114331Besides our week away, Blake and I have been enjoying date nights as well!

One in particular was to the Co-op for coffee and a treat, and another to our church Valentine Banquet!

IMG_20200124_183207IMG_20200209_205926The snowstorm we had a week ago was well predicted.

First church was cancelled the night before the snow started, and then second church was cancelled first thing Sunday morning.

It was a lot of snow! It came down fast!

Our pastor encouraged us to worship at home, which we love to do, and we did!

IMG_20200208_173401IMG_20200209_100526IMG_20200209_102311IMG_20200209_110613IMG_20200209_110703Grant has been coming home on the weekends and we are always SO, so glad to see him!

He likes to steal his siblings as soon as he arrives back in town!

As they were running to his front door when I dropped them off one Friday afternoon, I asked them to at least tell me goodbye, ha, ha!

IMG_20200131_153736The dogs are always happy to have him back too!

IMG_20200131_140435I think his friends were glad to see him as well – at least I am assuming that is what this surprise snowman on top of his truck after church one day meant?

Too funny!!

IMG_20200202_133054We are still enjoying a bit of quiet here and there – memorizing verses, playing games, and reading books.

IMG_20200123_184438IMG_20200129_085029IMG_20200130_113103IMG_20200201_170533IMG_20200203_142831Tate sits in front of these shelves every day!

He whispers the words as he reads – something I never want to forget.

IMG_20200203_131411Of course there is our daily time outside….and then the daily drying of all the snow clothes in the dryer!

IMG_20200129_130029IMG_20200130_164023IMG_20200130_164032IMG_20200130_164043This girlie of ours with the beautiful hair needed a trim!

She and I had a special afternoon out to get that trim and then we went to the Co-op to have a treat together.

I should have gotten a photo after her haircut!

IMG_20200130_074844IMG_20200130_074853IMG_20200130_141623We still spend time with our favorites!

Sunday evenings are a family night that we call snack night.

I LOVE SUNDAYS!

IMG_20200202_175642IMG_20200216_190738This photo makes me smile!

When there is a will, there is a way!

Our tiny but mighty Tate Owen.

IMG_20200216_082147This made me smile too.

I got home from a meeting one night and found this on the board on the fridge.

SO funny!

“It’s all good here, I think. Written by Eliza”

IMG_20200210_215023Last but not least – here are my grocery helpers this past Friday.

It goes from a dreaded job to a fun outing when you take these two along!

IMG_20200214_162824It’s snowing again today as I type this.

Six inches are predicted -but so far it is coming down very wet and not accumulating too much!

Time will tell.

One thing I know for sure – our winter months are far from over!

We are good with that, as you can see, winter here at Twin Oaks is AWESOME!

Hope you all are enjoying winter where you are too!!

A Beautiful Snow Storm

This past Sunday we had the most beautiful snow storm!

The snow came down fast and we ended up with over a foot of snow before it was done!

Monday morning we woke up to the MOST GORGEOUS frost I have ever seen!

I ran outside with my “big” camera to try to capture the beauty.

By late morning, the sun was shining and it was an amazing day.

That sun and all that snow could not keep us inside, so we headed out to play!

We were out there for hours!

Just look how beautiful it was!!

There are snow storms that we will always remember, and I think this was one of them.

It has made for so many hours outside this week!

My intention of being outside more this winter has been happening!

AND IT IS ALWAYS A GREAT CHOICE!

Being out in God’s creation is life giving!

It certainly does a lot for our bodies, minds and souls.

We are not ready for winter to be over yet – and based on past experience, we know we are no where near that time anyway.

Here’s hoping we get another beautiful snow storm like this one.

God is so kind to give us things like seasons, sunshine, snowfall, fresh air, beautiful frost – all for our pleasure!

Be sure to take it all in too – and thank Him for it while you are at it!

We see Your Glory, Heavenly Father, right here on the land at Twin Oaks!

An Early Anniversary Get Away

Even though Blake and my anniversary is not until March 4th, we took an amazing opportunity to have most of the week away last week!

Grant has been away for several weeks now, living in Madison, while attending some classes for his job with Mathy Construction.

This meant that his place was sitting there empty, which made it seem like the perfect place for Blake and my get away trip this year!

Close by! And free!

We took the long five minute van ride to our get away destination last Monday night and returned back home on Friday evening.

IT. WAS. FABULOUS!

Grant’s place is super nice!

IMG_20200205_081645IMG_20200205_081747Let’s just have a moment about that couch of his!

If I could have lifted it, I would have stolen it, ha, ha!

Bible time on a reclining leather couch was awesome.

IMG_20200204_065116I am sure it goes without saying that Blake and I ate like kings.

We made some super yummy meals!

IMG_20200204_181409IMG_20200206_184525We also found a new yummy flavor of ice cream!

It was Coconut Bliss Salted Caramel – and comes highly recommended!

IMG_20200204_200834If you have been around here awhile, you know the Mrs. of this couple had some goals for our time away.

She’s overly driven that way.

Thankfully she has a Mr. who brings her lofty goal setting self out of the clouds and reminds her to go with the flow!

Two of my goals, however, were to spend time with our bigs, which is something we never do without the whole crew.

So, one morning we grabbed some cookies and coffee and headed to Briar’s place to be with David, Kay, and our four grands!

I am smiling just typing about it!

It was WONDERFUL.

We actually had a conversation and FINISHED it!

We played with our grand babies!

We baked those cookies and ate them!

It was SO FUN!!!

This is something we must do again!

IMG_20200205_090909IMG_20200205_095414We left Briar’s place right before lunch and headed to Madison to do some shopping and spend some time with Grant.

A Costco stop was a must, even when I could not by any cold products!

We shopped the afternoon away and met Grant after his class finished for that day and had dinner with him.

THE BEST.

Absolutely the BEST!

IMG_20200205_144028IMG_20200205_171629When we were in town one of the days of our get away, we were handed twenty dollars while we were getting gas!

That made a coffee treat an obvious choice, don’t you think?!

The perfect treat while we roamed around Barnes and Noble and read some books!

IMG_20200204_125532IMG_20200204_144351

IMG_20200207_113821I did meet another goal of getting Blake to the eye doctor and helping him pick out new glasses!

Seeing the eye doctor was much needed, and so were those new glasses!

After our appointments were done, we finished out our get away trip at the grocery store getting our weekly grocery.

IMG_20200207_162030We got home with all that grocery Friday evening just in time for dinner!

I think everyone was glad to have us home, but two cuties in particular were very glad we were back!

IMG_20200207_182953_1IMG_20200207_184933We unpacked and got right to bed to head into a very busy, but very wonderful weekend!

I feel like I repeat myself a lot here in this little blog of ours – but maybe some things are worth repeating?

Like how thankful I am that I have a husband who will go hang out with me in our son’s empty apartment to spend purposeful time together to invest in our marriage!!

It is never lost on me.

That Blake cherishes me so much, I mean.

Our life is A LOT.

The Lord has trusted us with a lot!

It TAKES WORK to keep our marriage strong, our smiles bright for each other, and our conversations purposeful – so we can, with the Lord’s strength, do our best for Him.

We have to keep it all in order to make this happen!

God first, then marriage, then the children!

We both long for it ALL to be to the Glory of God!

May it be so! May the glory be all Yours, Heavenly Father!!

Our Restaurant Is Open

The winters here in our neck of the woods are beautiful!

When the snow starts falling consistently, our bird restaurant fills up quick!

Some people that live here at Twin Oaks may not admit to it (ha, ha!), but we ALL enjoy watching the birds!

The children even give some of the obvious regulars names!

Chad and I took these photos the other day with my long lens on my Canon Rebel.

Aren’t they beautiful!?

There were so many birds visiting all at once.

They just took our breath away!!

I am thankful that the Lord gives me the desire to stop and enjoy the things that He created for our pleasure.

I am thankful I am rubbing off on the children this way!

As I watch the birds it just puts me in a state of awe over our Creator!

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for Your beautiful birds, and for how they make me think of You!
