Chinese New Year 2020

Chinese New Year was this Saturday, January 25th.

We celebrated yesterday evening with some yummy food, awesome decorations, and our favorite people!

Thank you, Addie Mae, for taking charge of this celebration!

Blake and I are pleased with how we have chosen to celebrate Chinese New Year each year – we make it simple, but it still is enjoyed by all – especially Tate and Eliza!

The food was DELICIOUS!!

Chop Chae (with chicken though) Asian cole slaw (SO perfectly spicy!), clementines, and panda cupcakes!

We had a wonderful time with our bests – I just enjoy watching our grand babies no matter what they are doing!

Eating!

Playing!

They are SO fun!

Thankfully we have Grant’s day coming up next month so we have a good reason to indulge in some more Asian food!

Gung hay fat choy!!

春节快乐

Happy Year of the Rat from us and our two Chinese cherubs!!

A New Decade

The new year and new decade have started off great for us here at Twin Oaks!

How about for you all?

I really enjoy things like a new year, a new week, or a new morning.

It always seems to me like another chance!!

Time if a GIFT, and life here on this earth is like a VAPOR –

so every new morning should be celebrated in your heart and mind!

Every new week even more so – and every new year even more!

IMG_20200113_120906We were watching the birds at our little bird restaurant while eating our lunch today, and then it had us talking about simple joys – and how a joyful spirit is really just a perspective!

I have SO many simple joys throughout my day – and I am so thankful that the Lord allows His joy in me to see things that way!!

I ask Him to! And He answers!!

These pens are a simple joy to me – I enjoy keeping a journal, so pens and journals are a joy!

You must try these if you are looking for a good pen!

Everyone I have shown them to who then got them LOVES them too!

They are erasable! And refillable!

IMG_20200102_144116Another simple joy is our salad box.

We started a salad box at the farm years ago, but we had stopped doing it.

The mama who lives here is diligent in not putting things in her mouth and tummy that she shouldn’t…but is not as diligent in fixing herself meals to make every bite she can have count.

One of my intentions for 2020 is to take more purposeful bites!!

So – we started our salad box again and we are eating SO much better at lunch time now!

I eat a salad every day for lunch now and Tate and Eliza join me almost every day too!

IMG_20200121_124226Another intention I have on my mind is to get outside A LOT this winter.

Just because it is freezing and snowy doesn’t mean we should stay inside!

One beautiful 30 degree Saturday afternoon Addie Mae and I went for a brisk walk!

It was such a beautiful day and that fresh air and sunshine did our hearts good!

IMG_20200104_150659IMG_20200104_150722The snow is starting to accumulate here at Twin Oaks!

We are enjoying it very much! (see my previous post!)

The first thing every morning the kiddos look outside to see how much more has fallen while they have been asleep!

IMG_20200114_070016

IMG_20200117_164743IMG_20200114_165938IMG_20200123_080022It is just stunning outside our windows here!

The snow is so beautiful!

IMG_20200121_080538IMG_20200120_110724Winter does bring more time inside, but my crew is always creative, busy, and enjoying their days!

IMG_20200109_160113IMG_20200104_133617IMG_20200103_161212IMG_20200108_195938My kiddos and I have really been enjoying school lately!

Appointments away from home have slowed down to a doable rate, and we have been able to enjoy our school schedule and school plans all the more!

IMG_20200106_113103IMG_20200106_085120IMG_20200113_102430As we read through the The Child’s Story Bible by Catherine Vos, we have been watching a preview of each book of the Bible through The Bible Project on You Tube.

I would check it out!!

It is fascinating!!!

IMG_20200113_104800One day during school we juiced carrots and apples for our nutrition class!

It was fun! And delicious! Although it got mixed reviews!

IMG_4633This cherub has been having pain in his back and his neck.

That could mean a lot of things – which we are aware of and watching closely, of course.

In the meantime, I do whatever I can to help him – including a cold rice sock on his neck during school.

He has also been sitting on the exercise ball a lot, which seems to help to.

IMG_20200120_092438We still enjoy library day, although we have not been going there weekly like we used to.

I hope to start that again this week!!

After we get home from the library Twin Oaks is rather quiet!

IMG_20200108_133410IMG_20200108_143315Even on non-library days these kiddos always have a book in their hands!

And, yes, those are Eliza’s real legs!

She is getting SO TALL!

IMG_20200119_172459IMG_20200106_131703I love to read to them still too, and do so every single day!

IMG_20200121_144348There have been a couple of Sundays where we have stolen some grand babies.

TALK ABOUT JOY!!

They are SO good for us, and enjoy being here as much as we enjoy them being here!

IMG_20200105_130834IMG_20200112_101227IMG_20200112_172339Blake and I have not been able to have consistent Friday night date nights lately – but I did text my sweet husband while grocery shopping one Friday over the lunch hour and he came to my rescue and helped me do that ginormous job!

Speaking of ginormous – is this selfie close up enough for you – ha, ha!

IMG_20200110_131526Speaking of grocery shopping – yes, we are still eating.

I can hardly keep up!

But I have GREAT helpers that I am training up – and there is one cute boy I bet would love to run this kitchen here at Twin Oaks all by himself someday!

He stands on a chair to help me – see his hand in that first photo?!

By the way – this soup was a HIT.

IMG_20200114_160857IMG_20200114_180040IMG_20200116_153741IMG_20200114_152220IMG_20200121_13161000100lrPORTRAIT_00100_BURST20200104114620527_COVERIMG_20200109_183353IMG_20200120_112804These three help too, as well as Addie.

I was thankful for their dish washing help that day, but to be honest I just enjoyed listening to them while they worked!

IMG_20200116_131941Grant is a fun one!

He came and grabbed his brothers and sister a couple of days last week because he was free!

I love that they spend so much time together still!!!

IMG_20200113_133200Boys. That’s all I have to say about this photo.

IMG_20200117_105935Our personal barista.

And a cute barista too!

She takes this job seriously, you all!

IMG_20200121_080643We did have one dentist appointment last week.

Glad to have that over with! And so is Chad!

IMG_20200115_134132We are very thankful for the visitors we have had as of late!

Addie Mae’s friend flew in and stayed with us for five days!

We ALL love Rachael too! And her family! See you soon, Rachael’s family!

IMG_4675IMG_4680IMG_2544

IMG_20200112_161320IMG_20200112_184936Blake’s sister and three of her crew were with us this week.

It was a JOY to see them again!

IMG_20200121_174925IMG_20200122_174357IMG_20200122_174600_1IMG_20200122_174659IMG_20200122_1747322Well, it has been a quiet couple of hours this afternoon while the children played out in all that fresh snow!

Time for some warm drinks to sip and a big snack!

They always come back inside starving, of course!

Have a great weekend, everyone!!

Our Winter Wonderland at Twin Oaks

It seems that as the years pass by snow accumulation here in Wisconsin gets later and later each year.

We have hardly had any snow this winter so far!

This last week we had several days of snow fall – a couple inches at a time – and now we are living in a beautiful, sparkly, winter wonderland!

Yesterday was GORGEOUS.

The sun was shining bright, so after school and lunch we HAD to get outside!

IMG_20200120_131443Sledding was the desired activity, of course, of course!

We started working on getting our hill shaped just right and packed down for the fastest ride!

Just look at that sky!!!

IMG_20200120_131737IMG_20200120_131846IMG_20200120_131917IMG_20200120_133303I think Sadie Jo had more fun than any of the rest of us!

She LOVES the snow, and being out on the land.

IMG_20200120_131937I never went down that hill, but I enjoyed watching the kids play and also walking around the land to breathe in that fresh air and soak up that sunshine!

IMG_20200120_131507IMG_20200120_133248IMG_20200120_133253A couple hours later we drug ourselves back inside!

Here’s hoping this beautiful snow will stick around, although I may not be saying that come March and April!

Last year we had snow on April 27th, which does not seem right somehow!

Do you all love winter too?

Hope you get to enjoy some snow where you are!

The Month of December

I have some memories from the month of December that need kept!

At the very beginning of the month, after a dentist appointment in town, me and my crew headed to Barnes and Noble to spend a gift card that Tate had received for his birthday way back in August.

I was pretty proud of Tate for choosing from ALL those things, and also choosing things I knew he loved!

Thank you, Grandpa and Grandma Nettell for the gift certificate!!

image000001IMG_20191202_100536IMG_20191202_101713We went to yet another BEAUTIFUL wedding in December!

I do not have any photos of the wedding (wish I did!), but we did get to sit with good friends we have not seen in awhile and IT WAS THE BEST!

IMG_20191207_171042~2One of our favorite Christmas time traditions is joining our church to carol at the local nursing homes.

It did not disappoint!

Since we sing together every school morning here at home, these cuties of ours are naturals now!

IMG_20191208_172222

IMG_4170December was busy, but I still did a lot of cuddling and holding our two cherubs – and sometimes  naps were needed too!

IMG_20191208_155105~2

IMG_20191214_114700IMG_20200101_163031

IMG_20191226_152301IMG_20191228_182053Addie Mae grabbed a special helper one Friday and got all of the grocery for me!

I love that girl.

And that special helper too!

IMG_20191211_110623This guy worked for UPS the whole month of December, but still found time to be at Twin Oaks often – especially around dinner time, ha, ha!

He was helping me around the house one afternoon – and as usual, making everything more fun!

IMG_20191214_092747We found time to clean the kitchen at church one Saturday afternoon!

All of team Moschel was there, and we were fast and efficient!

IMG_20191214_143234We also traveled to Iowa in mid-December to see The Live Animal Christmas Play that some friends are a part of each year.

It was pretty amazing and SO well done!

IMG_4276IMG_20191215_162917IMG_20191215_164450IMG_4282IMG_4286IMG_4292

IMG_20191215_193611IMG_20191215_193617IMG_4315Our sweet puppy Sadie Jo was spay and had a hernia repaired right after we got home from our Iowa trip.

Poor girl!

She did SO well – an answer to my prayers – and recovered quickly.

We spoiled her while she healed though!

IMG_20191218_192200As winter set in our neck of the woods more games were played, more things were baked, more coloring and listening to story hour was done, and more hot drinks were consumed.

I LOVE winter!

IMG_20191202_171143IMG_20191230_204459

IMG_20191217_084327IMG_20191217_171958IMG_20191217_145121Of course the Lord provided us with some beautiful skies.

IMG_20191220_163735image000000IMG_20191218_071208IMG_20191229_140705Have I ever mentioned that we have the sweetest friends?

We received such thoughtful gifts at Christmas!!

One gift bag was hand delivered, we were sung to and then hugged and hugged.

Someone might have cried!

Our hearts were so full!!

IMG_20191223_120532

IMG_20191223_135757I always love time with my favorites!!

We’ve been stealing two boys on Sundays sometimes – it’s the BEST!

IMG_20191227_162648Of course school has been moving along – my all time favorite kind of day!

IMG_20191230_083256IMG_20191230_082648The guys processed all the deer meat and we filled our freezer with 100 pounds of ground venison!

Blessings!!

IMG_4463I was headed on a date with my hubby and Addie was headed to a work meeting and we were kinda in the same outfit so she snapped a photo!

My girlfriend just said today that as long as our daughters still like to match and borrow our clothes we are doing okay in the fashion department, ha, ha!

IMG_4158On the very last day of December we got a dusting of snow.

Thankful for my boys who keep the driveway clear for us!

IMG_20191231_082049The last day of December I  worked on an intention board – where I printed some images off the computer and wrote down some intentions I have for 2020.

Well – this idea spread pretty quickly in our little nest – and pretty soon everyone was making their own version of an intention board and were setting intentions too!!

I love this so much.

The kids hung their’s on the wall next to their beds.

Mine is in the back of my journal.

Can I also mention Eliza’s beautiful hair in this photo?

Our sweet girl.

IMG_20191229_165351One more photo to end this post – of our growing boy Tate Owen.

He is getting taller!

But I don’t think his heart could possibly get any bigger.

He is our joyful gem!!!

IMG_20191226_082519And now it is half way through January already!

We have SO many wonderful plans – we will see if the Lord brings them to fruition or not!

I CAN’T WAIT to share with you all where Blake and I are going this year for our anniversary trip!!

Here’s hoping December was good for you all too, and that you have many wonderful things to look forward too!

Happy winter, everyone!!
